Losing weight isn't easy, and there isn't a one-size-fits-all approach. Good nutrition requires balance and smart choices. Beware of diet advice that could get you off track to reaching your goals. Remember these tips to keep a well balanced approach to finding your healthy weight.
- All fats are not created equal. Avoid the bad fats like saturated and trans fats that are found in fast, processed and junk foods. Include healthy fats that are monounsaturated and polyunsaturated, like olive oil, fish, nuts, and avocados. These healthy fats can protect your overall health and help regulate your weight.
- Snacking is okay. Include high fiber, low calorie snacks between meals to help curb your appetite and avoid binge eating at meals. Fruits and veggies are a great way to add in vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients. Try eating them as a quick and easy snack. Skip the packaged snacks.
- Don't obsess about counting calories, just be mindful of what you are eating. Remember, calories from different foods will impact your body differently. 100 calories from an apple is different than 100 calories from a cupcake. Choose from foods that have true nutritional value over foods loaded with sugar and empty calories.
- Stay hydrated. Water is essential to health. It also keeps our digestive system running smoothly. Don't bother with sugary juices or sodas. Drink pure, clean water to flush out toxins and keep your appetite in check.
