Try these weight-loss tips

Help! I can’t control myself when I start eating! How can I limit my portions?
You’re not alone. Thousands, if not millions of people struggle with >portion control many times throughout the day. I know that doesn’t make you feel better. But because it is such a common problem, there are some strategies you can use to help control your portions.
Focus on eating more slowly to give yourself time to tune into your body’s hunger and satiety. It takes 20 minutes to half an hour for your brain to receive the message that your stomach is full, so take your time. What’s the rush?
When you are no longer feeling hungry but still want to eat, think about why. Are you bored? Find something else to keep you busy. Are you upset? Call a friend and vent. Are you stressed or anxious? Turn on some music or go for a brisk walk to relax and de-stress. Don’t try to fix your problems with food.
Keep your portions smaller by following these basic tips:

Cabot woman exemplifies huge weight-loss success

CABOT — Usually, people who lose something do not win a prize, but one Cabot woman won $100,000 for losing  weight.
After several years of hard work, Rebecca Privitera has lost 221 pounds and recently won $100,000 from Beachbody, the company that developed P90X, Insanity and other fitness products. She was one of two winners of the 2013-2014 Beachbody Challenge, and she received her prize at the annual Beachbody Coach Summit in Las Vegas.
Privitera said she grew up overweight, and when she tipped the scale at 381 pounds in May 2011, she decided to make a change. A week before, she had participated in the Toad Suck Daze 5K, finishing last. The race took her 1 hour, 14 minutes to finish, and she said she cried when she got into the car.

Do You Gain or Lose Weight During Ramadhan?

Time: 8 pm. Place: A gym in Muscat: I was training with weights when I happened to look at the mirror across the gym floor. Strangely, I couldn’t see myself in it and almost stopped mid-exercise, only to realise that the person in black staring at me was actually me! A leaner, fitter, more shapely me, a me I had forgotten.
I know you must be grinding your teeth in annoyance. But believe me, I would have too, at anyone who was so depraved as to go to the gym and flaunt the results during Ramadhan.
Readers this is Abdullah al Ghadhani who lost more than 8 kg ever since Ramadhan started this year. “This is an ideal chance for those who want to lose weight and stay fit and detoxify themselves, as sedentary lifestyle during Ramadhan can take heavy toll on your health and fitness goals,” he says, with a big smile.
Ghadhani spends at least two hours working out — on an empty stomach and with no water. “It’s a good way to a stay fit and cutting weight miracle,” he says. He usually does cardio and weightlifting exercises.
Experts say that citizens and expatriates who fast during the Holy month of Ramadhan can loose weight quickly. A change in your workout habits and diet makes it possible to train without burdening your system or jeopardising your fast, experts say.
But those who are fasting are urged to do so with care and to consider the effect on their bodies of having had no food or water during the day. “However, exercising without having food or liquids for a long period of time is not ideal for everybody,” said Julie, a nutritionist at the private hospital. “The sugar levels are very low and one can get very thirsty — exercises, even if it’s just walking, can make one more tired.”

Whoopi Goldberg's Weight Loss Was Due to 'Pound a Day Diet'

whoopi goldberg pound a day diet weight loss Whoopi Goldbergs Weight Loss Was Due to Pound a Day Diet

Whoopi Goldberg attributed her recent 30-pound weight loss to Rocco DiSpirito’s “Pound a Day Diet.”
Goldberg, 58, made the revelation on the July 15 episode of the Dr. Oz Show, where she revealed she also recently quit her 46-year smoking habit.
The 5-foot-5 Whoopi said she had an epiphany when her weight climbed to 215 pounds. Goldberg, who has struggled with weight her entire life, decided at that moment that she was going to lose weight.
Whoopi told Dr. Oz she started following celebrity chef Rocco DiSpirito’s Pound a Day Diet and lost 30 pounds fairly quickly.
DiSpirito’s Pound a Day Diet is a low-carb Mediterranean-style eating plan that involves calorie cycling. Rocco said it can help you lose a pound a day every five days without plateaus.
In the first week, dieters consume six low-carb, protein-rich meals totaling 850 calories on weekdays and 1,200 calories on the weekends. The following week, you consume more calories, but every week the diet changes, so your body never gets used to it, helping you avoid the inevitable weight-loss plateaus that frustrate so many people.
Rocco DiSpirito: I Lost 50 Lbs on Pound a Day Diet
DiSpirito, author of the bestseller Now Eat This, has credited his Pound a Day Diet for his own amazing 50-pound weight loss.
The 6-foot-1 Rocco slimmed down from 230 pounds to 180 pounds by changing his diet, and now boasts an impressive 10 percent body fat. The once sedentary DiSpirito is now an accomplished triathlete.
In response to criticism that his diet makes you lose weight too quickly, DiSpirito said his program is designed to produce rapid weight loss.
“The ‘Pound a Day Diet’ is as high-velocity as a weight-loss program can get,” DiSpirito told ABC. “Only liposuction provides faster results. I did the research. I know it works better [than liposuction] because I personally tested it on over three dozen people.”
In addition to losing weight, Whoopi also quit smoking after being enslaved by nicotine addiction for the past 46 years. Goldberg began smoking at age 12, and has tried many times to quit.
Whoopi said the turning point came after she saw a video from the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation about two boys, Keith and Kennedy, who suffer from cystic fibrosis. People with cystic fibrosis have difficulty breathing because the condition causes mucus to collect in the lungs.
Goldberg said watching the video made her realize how much she took her health for granted, and decided to give up smoking once and for all. Whoopi now looks and feels better than she has in years.

Colorado Couple Loses 280 Pounds Together

A Colorado couple lost a total of 280 pounds together after they set a goal to become healthy role models for their four children.
Robert and Jessica Foster weighed in at 327 and 287 pounds, respectively, two years ago when they had what Robert describes as a “conversation about the way we were.”
“We felt bad about not being able to do certain things with our kids,” Foster, 32, told ABC News. “We’d come home from the grocery store and unload all of the groceries and the kids would want to play and we’d have to say no because we’re too tired.”
‘Half of Me Is Gone,’ Says Woman Who Lost 160 Pounds
5 Beach Body Fit Tips from 'Extreme Weight Loss' Host Chris Powell
Extreme Weight-Loss Success Stories
“We didn't fit on amusement park rides,” said Foster, who lives with Jessica, 31, and their four kids -– an eight-year-old, seven-year-old twins and a four-year-old -- in Boulder, Colorado.
It was Jessica Foster who got the couple started on their weight loss journey, attending Zumba classes on her own and encouraging Robert, who did most of the family’s cooking, to, at first, cut down on portions and eventually change what the family was eating entirely.
“A typical meal for us before would have been a big pot of spaghetti loaded with Italian sausage and bread and we’d each have two or three helpings and the kids were starting to pick up on that,” Robert said. “We ate a lot of fast food and when we cooked at home we were just making a lot of it.”
The family started making small changes -– like first cutting out sugary drinks -– and then made bigger ones as their weight loss progressed. The entire family switched to an all-organic diet last year and, since May, Jessica and Robert have followed a plant-based diet with no meat or dairy.
“It was steady for the most part,” Foster said of the couple’s roughly two-pounds per week weight loss. “We had some plateau periods that we had to work through and, of course, we tended to hit our plateaus during the holidays, when everyone is trying to feed you.”
The Fosters both picked up running –- motivated at first by Jessica’s desire to compete in a local “Ugly Christmas Sweater” 5K –- and hiked, swam and played tennis with their kids for exercise.
Robert, a full-time college student who plans to pursue a medical degree, and Jessica, an apartment concierge who is also in school part-time, used a calorie-counting app to keep track of their diet and relied on each other to help them through the inevitable hard times.
“There were times when we would sit and look at each other and say, ‘You know what I could really go for right now,’” Robert recalled. “We held each other accountable and would be there to help each other and at the same time we have a playful competitiveness with each other.”
The couple now are both at the same weight -– 167 pounds -– but focused on different goals.
Jessica, according to her husband, is working to lower her body fat percentage while Robert is focused on adding lean muscle mass and running sub-four hours in his next marathon, his second.
“The best advice I can give somebody is to get the right goals from day one,” Foster said. “If you set out and your goal is to lose weight, when you get to the weight you want, you think what’s next and you go back to your old ways.”
“Our goal was we want to become healthy, fit role models for our kids, something that we want to continue for the rest of our lives,” he said.
Tune in to "Good Morning America" tomorrow, Wednesday, beginning at 7 a.m. to see more of the Fosters' incredible weight loss journey.

Slimming sisters lose a staggering 11 stone between them

Ann and Bernie from Ennis, Co Clare changed their lives by dropping the weight in less than a year

Super sisters Ann O’Sullivan and Bernie Bennis have changed their lives by dropping 11st between them in less than a year.
It took just eight months for Ann and Bernie to get their health – and waistlines – back on track and it’s all thanks to Slimming World.
Ann, 44, explained: “I had never had a problem with my weight when I was younger but after I got married the pounds just kept creeping on.
“I am a full-time carer and I was grabbing a meal here and there so instead of cooking I’d end up reaching for the nearest ready meal or takeaway – or even a bag of crisps.
“I’m prone to comfort eating as well. And it all had a terrible effect on my health.”

Ann before she lost 5 stone

In fact, it affected Ann’s health so badly that she got the wake-up call she needed when she received some news at the doctor’s.
She said: “I had my blood tested and my cholesterol had risen to 6.4. It was a shock for me that my cholesterol was so high.
“The doctor told me I was going to have to either go on tablets to lower it or lose weight.
" I didn’t want to start taking medication so she suggested that I join Slimming World as an alternative as she’d heard from other patients that it was a healthy eating plan. It was just the kickstart I needed.”
But before heading to Slimming World, Ann first decided to rope in her sister Bernie.
Bernie, 31, said: “We joined on October 9 last year and I went basically because Ann asked me. I knew I needed to lose weight but I didn’t really have the motivation to do it.
“I had tried all sorts of diets and I always lost a bit but I never managed to keep it off. The weight always crept back on. But I decided I would give Slimming World a shot with her.”
Bernie, like her sister, admitted she grabbed the handiest things she could because of her busy job as a purchaser.

Bernie before she lost 6.5 stone

Both girls said the help they received from their consultant Elizabeth Anderson was great and from the first week they found the plan easy to follow.
And eight months later Bernie has lost 6.5st while Ann has dropped 5st.
Ann said: “In just four weeks my cholesterol had dropped to 4.6. Elizabeth is fantastic, we haven’t missed group for even a week and she gives us great support. She keeps us going and helps us every week. My husband Conor has encouraged me all the way too.
“I have lost more than 5st and everything has changed so much. I feel like I’m back to being the person I used to be before carrying the weight – my confidence has really flourished. My dress size dropped from a 24 to a 16.”
Thanks to her healthy cooking Bernie’s husband Michael has also been feeling the benefits and, while she’s not at her target yet, Bernie is thrilled to be down from a size 24 to a 14.
Elizabeth, who is consultant for the Ennis group which is held every Wednesday at Auburn Lodge Hotel, said the slimming sisters have been an inspiration.

Slimming: Chesterton mum lost almost seven stones after joining Slimming World

Slimming: Chesterton mum lost almost seven stones after joining Slimming World
Beverly Ballard before and after her weight loss at Slimming World.BEING taken ill was the best thing that could have happened to Beverly Ballard, as it led to her losing almost seven stones in weight.
The 49-year-old, from Mount Pleasant in Chesterton, had been a yo-yo dieter for years, never able to find the one reliable diet that would change her life.
Her luck came when her GP referred her for 12 weeks to a Slimming World group.
After trying the Slimming World plan, which provides dieting regimes emphasised on eating in moderation, in just one year Beverly has seen herself drop from 20st, 11lbs to 13st, 11.5lbs at her last weigh-in.
She said: “Once I was taken ill and my husband took me to the urgent care doctors at Campbell Road in Stoke.
“They transferred me to A&E at Newcastle City Hospital, who urged me to go and see my GP.
“When later I went to my GP and he measured my blood pressure, it was very, very high, and he referred me to the Slimming World group to lose weight.
“At that point I didn’t have much choice. It was either that or having a heart attack.”
Beverly decided to give it a shot and joined the group, but didn’t hold her hopes high. She was amazed when she lost two and a half pounds in her first week, and then managed to shed over a stone in her first month.
She said: “Before, I was miserable and unhappy with myself. The skin on my face was tired and blotchy.
“Generally I felt all right, but used to have headaches and felt sick.
“Eating badly was my problem. I used to eat a lot of takeaways, fried food and crisps. Crisps were my downfall.
“I didn’t think joining Slimming World would help me.

Expert tips on how to get the perfect holiday beach body fast

PREPPING for your summer holiday can be a time-consuming affair. From self-tanning to dropping a few pounds, there is a seemingly never-ending list of beautifying tasks to tick off before you feel ready to hit the beach.
By starting preparations now and following our expert guide on what to do and when, you'll be ready for your holiday in no time.

Four weeks to go diet

If you want to lose weight before your summer holiday, start cutting down on junk food.
"Reduce your intake of refined sugar to aid healthy weight loss," says Lily Simpson of The Detox Kitchen (detoxkitchen.co.uk).
"Eat extra helpings of green, leafy vegetables and good quality lean protein and you will be on your way to a healthy summer body."
Eating the right kinds of foods can also lead to a flatter stomach.
"Fibre-rich raw vegetables as well as lightly-cooked vegetables will cleanse your digestive system, which may result in less bloating," Lily adds.
Antioxidants can also help you de-bloat so try swapping your usual afternoon cuppa for a healthy green tea such as Pukka Herbs Supreme Matcha Green Tea, £1.89 (ocado.com).

Magnesium, found in spinach, bananas, nuts, seeds, fish and whole grains, will also help you achieve a flatter stomach.

Exercise

Getting active will not only speed up your weight loss but help you tone up, sleep better and give you an energy boost.
Pick a sport or book an exercise class that gives you a full body workout. The Virgin Active Queenax Fast Class (virginactive.co.uk) is a 20-minute class using equipment that looks like a climbing frame. Participants jump, climb, swing and hang to burn fat, increase strength and improve mobility.
To keep you motivated, celebrity personal trainer Russell Bateman (thesbcollective.com) advises training with a friend.
"Peer pressure can make exercise fun," he says. "You support each other and are less likely to cancel a session when you know someone is waiting for you."
When completing squats, lunges or press-ups, make them last five seconds to make your muscles work even harder.

One week to go hair

"A full head of colour is best done at least a week before sun exposure," says celebrity colourist Josh Wood (joshwoodcolour.com).
He advises not exposing freshly dyed roots to direct sunlight because it can affect colour, making it look brassy.
"For longer trips I would dye the roots to match your natural colour. This 'root shadowing' gives a more natural result," he says.
"As your new colour is blended with your natural colour, you will not have to worry about obvious-looking roots coming through while you're away."
When on holiday, care for your hair as you would your skin. "Conditioner creates a barrier between the hair and the sun so use a lot of it," says Heidi Gammon, principle colourist at Atelier Josh Wood. She also recommends using a mask such as Wella SP Repair Mask, £20.40 (feelunique.com). "If you're blonde, use a blue-tinted conditioner to brighten highlights and remove yellow tones."
Try Philip Kingsley Pure Silver Conditioner, £19 (philipkingsley.co.uk).

Cellulite

No matter how toned or fit you are, cellulite can still affect you.
beach body, diet, perfect beach body, bikini body, fake tan, tan, waxing, beach look, summer look, best beach body diet, beach body diet,Apply at-home cellulite cream one month before your departure date for best results [GETTY]
The orange peel effect can be tough to shift but by using the right treatment it is possible to reduce the appearance in just one week.
The best way to do this is with a cellulite-busting spa treatment. "This should be conducted one week before hitting the beach," says Maria Hatzistefanis, skincare expert and founder of Rodial and Nip+Fab.
"This gives your body time to flush away all toxins so that the skin appears smoother and free from cellulite."
If you prefer to use an at-home cellulite cream you must start applying it a month before your departure date, advises Maria.
"Nip+Fab offers a cellulite product called Cellulite Fix which should be used 28 days before a holiday," she says.
"It should be used twice a day and after exercise. Cellulite is extremely stubborn, which is why frequency is the key when using a product like this."

Three days to go waxing

As hair tends to grow more quickly in the summer months, you need to take this into account. So don't go for a wax more than a couple of days before you're beach bound.
"Prepare skin for waxing by using a scrub the day before and don't use any moisturiser on the day of Read morethe wax as it acts as a barrier," says Carleigh Rayner, training manager at Strip (stripwaxbar.com).
"Also make sure you don't go in the sun for 48 hours before you have a wax, so your skin does not become irritated," she says.
"Ensure you wait 24 hours before applying fake tan to give your skin a chance to calm down.
"That way you should enjoy at least 10 to 14 hair-free days before you see any regrowth."

Tanning

Applied properly, fake tan can be your legs' best friend, making them look slimmer and helping to even out skin tone while you are on holiday. For the perfect faux glow, start the process a couple of days before you go away.
"First, exfoliate from top to toe," says Nichola Joss, tanning expert for St Tropez. "Use a hydrating body scrub to remove dead skin and nourish the fresh skin underneath.
"Next, apply a firming body butter to hydrate, tighten and tone your skin. Massage it in to boost circulation and give skin a radiant glow.
beach body, diet, perfect beach body, bikini body, fake tan, tan, waxing, beach look, summer look, best beach body diet, beach body diet,For the perfect faux glow start fake tanning a couple of days before you go away [GETTY]
"The day before you leave, apply St Tropez Self Tan Luxe Dry Oil, £25 (boots.com) to give an all-over golden sheen.
"Use a mitt, starting from your ankles and working upwards, massaging the oil gently into the skin," she says. "Leave for eight hours to develop before washing off the guide colour to reveal your tan.
"Remember to use a hydrating moisturiser to ensure your tan fades evenly."

One day to go eyelash tinting

Tinting brows and lashes is a great way to gain extra definition and means you don't have to wear mascara by the pool.
"When out in the sunshine your eyebrows are exposed to UV rays which can cause the hair to lighten," says brow guru Shavata Singh (shavata.co.uk).
"Tinting is a great way to prevent this. I recommend getting brows professionally manicured one day before going on holiday. Groomed eyebrows are the equivalent to a mini-facelift. It takes no longer than 15 minutes and will last for the length of your summer holiday."
Shavata advises that a tint should be no more than a couple of shades darker than your natural colour and the effects should last up to two weeks.

Nails

To keep your nails in tip top condition for the duration of your holiday, Nails Inc founder Thea Green recommends a long-lasting gel manicure.
"Our own Nails Inc Gel Manicure (from £38, nailsinc.com) lasts for up to three weeks," she says. "The manicure works to strengthen nails, prevent bending and breakages.
"It encourages natural growth underneath the gel and is finished with a professional gel top coat that locks in colour.
"If you're going to perform an at-home manicure make sure that you use both top and base coats.
"Applying additional top coat every couple of days will keep your nails looking fresh."
One final tip. While you're away, apply hand cream regularly to stop skin drying out in the sun.

Lauren Conrad Reveals Wedding Weight Loss Diet

lauren conrad wedding weight loss diet Lauren Conrad Reveals Wedding Weight Loss Diet
Lauren Conrad’s wedding weight loss routine includes a sensible low-carb diet, running and

 hiking.

While many brides starve themselves and work out like crazy before their weddings, the laid-back Conrad insists she won’t go to extremes before she marries law student William Tell this fall.
“I’m not a huge fan of the gym, to be honest,” Conrad told People. “I just like getting out, like going on a hike, going on the kayak, and going for a run on the beach.”

Lauren, who previously revealed she follows a low-carb diet, refuses to starve because she loves to eat. “I really love food,” she said. “I’m not good at dieting.”
Conrad said her
usual diet consists of lots of vegetables, organic salad greens and lean protein like turkey, tuna, and bean

Her exercise program includes an hour of weight-training and treadmill workouts twice a week. On alternate days, the formers “Hills” star hikes for 45 minutes in L.A.’s Runyon Canyon.
Lauren’s wedding dress will no doubt be elegant and gorgeous, since she’s a fashion designer with her own successful clothing line.
Conrad revealed her fashion tips in her bestselling book, Lauren Conrad Style, and her makeup and skincare secrets in Lauren Conrad Beauty.
Kim Kardashian and Jessica Simpson Went Low-Carb

Conrad’s relaxed wedding diet plan is diametrically opposed to the strict weight loss regimens followed by recent newlyweds Kim Kardashian and Jessica Simpson.
Kardashian followed a super-strict low-carb ketogenic-style Atkins diet that limited her daily carb intake to less than 60 grams. Kim credited her ketogenic regime for her stunning 56-pound
weight loss in six months.
The low-carb, high-fat ketogenic diet accelerates weight loss by making your body burn fat (instead of glucose) for fuel, explained Dr. Jeff Volek, author of The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Living.
Similarly, Jessica worked out rigorously almost every day and followed a low-carb Weight Watchers diet to lose 70 pounds before her July 5 wedding. In the two weeks leading up to her wedding, Simpson reportedly followed a strict vegan diet to slim down even more.

Diets are obsessing the modern male - and the weight loss industry is rubbing its hands in glee

Diets are obsessing the modern male - and the weight loss industry is rubbing its hands in glee

Many women, of all sizes, live in a state of perpetual anxiety about their food consumption. Does the
same fate await Britain's men?
Chris Hill doesn't eat bread, biscuits, crisps or chocolate. When he drinks alcohol, which is rarely, he
orders vodka, lime and soda, never beer. Cakes and pastries are similarly avoided, as are pasta and cereal.
Instead, for breakfast, the 26-year-old procurement manager has a pork chop or piece of fish, usually salmon, with eggs and vegetables. Lunch is a chicken salad, and dinner is meat or fish with more vegetables.
Hill has been eating this way since April 2012, when he embarked on a low-carbohydrate diet to lose weight. Back then, he weighed 18 stone which, at 5ft 10in, gave him a body mass index (BMI) of 36.1 kg/m2, well past the obesity threshold of 30.

"I was self-conscious," he says now. "People would make remarks. If I went to the beach, I'd wear a vest."
His slimming regime of choice was the Paleo diet. Named after the pre-historic palaeolithic era, its premise is: if they didn't eat it 15,000 years ago, we shouldn't now. The reasoning – that our digestive systems haven't evolved as quickly as methods of food production – is secondary to the result, which involves a diet rich in meat, fish and eggs which promises to shed pounds, fast. Championed by the American nutritionist Dr Loren Cordain, it was Google's most searched-for diet of 2013.
Like many diets, its healthfulness is controversial; the British Diatetic Association warns that cutting out grains "raises the potential for nutritional deficiencies".
Nevertheless, it worked. Today, Hill is a muscular 12 stone and has a healthy BMI of 24.1. He still follows the diet – with the occasional treat – and works out at the gym, a mix of weight-lifting and rowing, for 45 minutes a day, four days a week.
"It has inspired me," he says. "At first it was strange, but I'm used to it now. I'm much fitter and happier."

7 steps can lead to healther lifestyle

As I have said for years, there is no secret or magic pill to help you get in shape, lose weight and live a healthy lifestyle. And no matter how many infomercials you are bombarded with, no matter how many “new” products people try to sell you, the only true way to do these things and do them the right way is to make the decision that you want to do something about it and commit to it.

I know, it’s easier said then done, but it can be done and has been for years. I work with clients every day who are proof it works. No matter what their current fitness level may have been, as long as they make the commitment to show up and do the work, they succeed. Did you hear that last part? You have to do the work.

Here are seven things you can do now to help in starting this difficult, but rewarding process.

— Get moving: Part of any effective weight-loss routine is exercise. Select a workout routine that best fits your fitness and lifestyle needs. Whether it’s working with a trainer, or a friend, or a DVD, just pick something, show up and do it.

— Practice portion control: Over the years, portions have become supersized. Larger serving sizes make it easy to consume excess calories, even when it comes to healthy foods. Curb your consumption by being mindful of proper serving sizes and make sure half of your plate is filled with fruits and colorful veggies at every meal.

— Lose low-fat labels: Many dieters fill their kitchens with foods branded as “low fat,” but all too often that label is a diet trap. To improve their flavor, manufacturers tend to add more sugar, flour and thickeners to fat-free products, which boost calorie content. Studies show that people often view a low-fat label as a green light to eat much more than they normally would.

— Rev your metabolism: Digesting high-fiber green vegetables is an easy way to make your metabolism work harder, and it can kill cravings for unhealthy foods. Likewise, your body burns twice as many calories by digesting proteins than it does when digesting carbs. However, don’t cut out carbs completely, we need those to give us energy for the day and to power us through our workouts

— Cut out soda: The average American drinks 53 gallons of soda a year; if it’s regular soda, that comes to about 49 pounds of sugar. In addition to contributing to weight gain, soda increases your risk of diabetes, bone weakening and tooth decay. Even diet soda is packed with artificial sweeteners. Additionally, the carbonation in soda cause air bubbles to form and expand in your abdomen, which can cause excess bloating.

— Drink more water: We all know that water is healthy, but what you may not know is that it could help you shed excess pounds. Each day, drink enough water so that your urine is clear. A recent study showed that your metabolic rate jumps within 10 minutes of drinking ice-cold water, and it stays up for an additional half-hour after you drink it. Research has also found that drinking an average of 6.5 cups of water per day helped people consume 200 fewer calories a day.

— Switch to whole grains: Instead of white pastas, breads and flour, switch to whole grains. Packed with fiber, whole grains keep you full longer, stabilize blood sugar, and are loaded with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Plus, a diet rich in whole grains has been tied to lower rates of chronic disease such as diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and obesity.

So put down the remote, the pill bottle with Kim Kardashian on the label and the jelly doughnut and make the decision to commit to follow these seven simple steps, be patient, and enjoy the journey to living a healthier lifestyle.
