Dieting

What to eat when dieting

Starch food is a brilliant source for energy and a key supply of many nutrients for our diet. They also contain calcium, fibre, B vitamins and iron. There is the misconception that foods like this are more fattening but in fact they hold fewer then half calories contained in fat so are great when dieting.
Generally everyone knows that we should eat more veg and fruit when dieting but still they don't. It is recommended that we eat around 5 portions a day of various veg and fruit. They can be tinned, dried, fresh or frozen so there is lots to choose from but keep in mind that potatoes are starchy food.
We should also be in taking more fish into our diet, this should include one serving of oily fish per week e.g. salmon or mackerel etc. It's a great supply for protein, source of a few minerals and vitamins. You should try to have at least 2 lots of fish per week to include the oily fish. Again this can be tinned, fresh or frozen but be aware that the smoked and tinned fish is likely to be excessive in salt.
To maintain our healthy diet we do actually want a little fat, but what is vital is the type to consume. The 2 most common sorts:

• Saturated fat - enhances the possibility of heart disease developing
• Unsaturated fat – will decrease cholesterol of the blood............
