Weekend weight gain

Don’t panic if the scales show weight gain on Sunday or Monday, say researchers.

It makes sense that people tend to put on more weight at the weekend, when going out for meals, going to friends’ for dinner and long days at home might lead to excessive snacking, drinking and consumption overall. But new research looking at how and when people lose weight has found that limiting your calorie intake during the week has a greater effect on your overall weight loss, even if you tend to gain at the weekends.
Looking at how dieters lost and gained weight, researchers from Cornell University saw that almost everyone shed pounds from Monday to Friday, then gained on weekends.
Then, to find out how this timing of weight loss and weight gain might affect dieters, the researchers teamed up with the VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland and Tampere University of Techn......
